Sennheiser RS170 DJ HeadphonesThere are hundreds of different headphones jostling for your attention by claiming to have ‘unique’ features you cannot find elsewhere. Unfortunately, these features are mostly far from being unique and are usually variations of a particular technical aspect. So, you have lots of headphones which reduce ambient noise, give you crystal clear sound, are good to look at and easy to carry. But why should you buy them, if they have nothing special to offer? If this is the question you are faced with, have a look at the Sennheiser RS 170 closed digital wireless headphones.

Sennheiser, as you may well know, is a reputed German manufacturer of electronic products. Their headphones rarely fail to impress, despite the stiff competition around. Although innovation may not exactly be what you relate German technology with, these Sennheiser headphones can be quite a pleasant surprise for any music lover.

This is because these headphones have a truly unique multi receiver transmission system, which allows upto four people to listen from the same source, which is pretty suave. These wireless headphones use RF technology for receiving signals from afar – they operate on a 2.4 GHz frequency, thus giving you digital radio signals free from any distortion.

These Sennheiser wireless headphones allow you to move from one room to the other without having to carry the source of your music along with you. And if you have two of these, both you and your partner can listen to your favorite tracks without jostling for the rights to wear the headphones. If that’s your thing.

The sound quality is crisp and clear, but sadly lacks boom and bass. Even with the ‘bass boost’ feature on, you may not find the bass engaging enough. However, you can use them while watching your favorite movies and still get to hear the finer sound effects. But still there are two problems you may face while using the Sennheiser RS 170 Closed Digital Wireless Headphones.

  • Though it is a closed back headphone, which should block ambient noise efficiently, you may find that while it does reduce the ambient noise, it does not eliminate it altogether. You also need to wear the headphones properly, so that the ear cups cover your ears completely, leaving no space for ambient noise to trickle in.
  • There is also a problem of echo, particularly when you are trying to watch TV, with these headphones on.
  • Other than this you may find that the Sennheiser RS 170 closed digital wireless headphones deliver what it promises, nearly. It’s important to mention that the surround sound is faux and only simulates a surround-type environment. A word for the wise, don’t keep too many expectations from this feature. The promised 260 feet range can work if you are not cutting off the signal with too many walls in between.

Overall, the headphones aren’t terrible but they are hardly likely to set the world on fire. It’s a bit of a disappointment from a company like Sennheiser, with their astonishing reputation for amazing sound equipment, but these headphones fall a bit flat. Not bad, just decidedly average.
